Bill Davidow is a [[Silicon Valley]] engineer, marketing guru, author and venture capitalist. His father, Leonard Stone Davidow, was a book publisher in Chicago who co-founded Consolidated Book Publishers, which published classics, encyclopedias, Bibles, and cookbooks. His mother, S. Claire Sondheim, served on the national board of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., Davidow graduated from Highland Park High School in 1953.

From 1961 to 1964, Davidow was a lecturer at Stanford in electrical engineering. During that time he also worked at [[General Electric]]’s Computer Department, where his work focused on character recognition.

In 1965, he joined [[Hewlett-Packard]]'s fledgling computer division and ultimately served as the division’s marketing manager. While there, he oversaw the introduction of HP's first computer system--the HP2116.

In 1970, Davidow joined Signetics Memory Systems, a semiconductor manufacturer,as vice-president of marketing, where he helped oversee the development of the world's first bipolar microprocessor.

In 1973, Davidow joined the five-year-old Intel Corporation, where he ran the marketing effort for the company's line of microprocessors. He directed the development of Intel's Development Systems business, which reached annual sales of more than $100 million. These support systems played a key role in enabling Intel to achieve leadership in the microprocessor field.

While at Intel he served as vice-president for the microcomputer division, the microcomputer system division, and ultimately served as senior vice president of marketing at sales.

At Intel, Davidow was best known for the role he played in creating “Project Crush,” a marketing effort aimed against [[Motorola]] that established Intel’s 8086 as the world's leading microprocessor.
